Permineralized Wood

Holding a piece of this ancient wood is like touching deep time. It carries the grounding, stabilizing energy of the Earth itself, helping to anchor awareness in the present while connecting us to the wisdom of the distant past. Petrified and mummified woods are often associated with resilience, transformation, and the slow cycles of nature — reminding us that growth, change, and renewal unfold over great spans of time.

We were thrilled to discover these rare beauties at the Tucson Gem Show. These standout specimens from Zwenkau, Germany, immediately caught our eye with their remarkable preservation.

Dating back to the Triassic Period (250–220 million years ago), this ancient conifer wood has undergone permineralization, where mineral-rich waters gradually replaced the original organic material, preserving the intricate cellular structure in stone. Portions of Mummified Wood are also present, showcasing natural preservation alongside mineralization — a rare and fascinating combination!
